Medellin, Colombia

Paragliding over Medellin, Colombia

Eventually I hope to be able to write a little bit more about Colombia because it was definitely one of the most amazing stops on our journey; right now I'm a little focused on getting all of these pictures up on the blog from all of the various countries and adventures. But I wanted to say that Colombia really touched all of us. After Colombia we told everyone how amazing it was for us and we considered ourselves quasi-ambassadors for the country. If people were traveling throughout Central and South America and considering skipping Colombia we told them that they were crazy. The country is chock full of great people and great food and great places. In short it truly is amazing. The people realize their country has been the target of years and years of negative press and most people have a negative opinion towards visiting the country, so they treat visitors extremely well, some of the hospitable people we encountered on our journey. And in light of the continued armed conflict and political struggles, they know how to have a great time and enjoy life in spite of the ups and downs that the war has wrought. Obviously some places are better than others and I don't want to paint a completely rosy picture of the situation, but it really impacted us, in addition to having a great time there we tried to learn as much as we could about the conflict and understand the issues at hand.

Before I continue to write without stopping I just want to say that I think all of us walked away from Colombia with a deep desire to return whenever possible and to continue the learning process as well. Will be coming with an update from our trek to the Ciudad Perdidad very soon as well.....stay tuned

Nice soft landing after a successful paraglide ride above Medellin.

Bird's eye view....beautiful countryside in the mountains above Medellin.

A Colorado Kid loving life in Colombia, easily one of our favorite Latin American countries. Amazing people, great scenery, interesting (and troubled) history and present, some of the best cities in Latin America. And good times!

This is a nice pic of one of the group gliding solo over the city. Posted by Picasa

Piranha Fishing

One of our cool trips on the Amazon tour was a piranha fishing thing. I know, really touristy, but hey we had a great time. And yes these are real piranhas.

VENEZUELA

The following entry mainly contains pictures from our 3 day excursion to visit Angel Falls, the highest waterfalls in the world, in southeastern Venezuela. We were a little hesitant to go at first because we were on a major schedule to get to Brasil, but uh we were in the neighborhood and we decided it would be another big South America attraction taken care of so why not? It turned out to be some of the most memorable days of the trip for sure. Good times huh Brian? What an adventure, what an amazing place. Here I am on the left enjoying the rocks and the waterfalls with a couple of Irish guys that were in the group. Man were they funny, we had some good times with those fellas. Quality people.

More amazing scenery.

An impressive waterfall not too far from the entrance to the park. As we went underneath it I was reminded of that scene from the Last of the Mohicans.

We tried to take Brian's towel everywhere and grab some good pictures with it because as you can see it is an elephant on a skateboard and that is always a good time. We named him Bolo and this was a good pic with him on the trail up to the base of Angel Falls. Enjoy the rest of the Angel Falls pics and if you are ever in the neighborhood, I would definitely recommend the falls. Awesome. Right up there with Iguacu falls and Machu Picchu and la Ciudad Perdida as some of the more amazing South American adventures.
